For this third Buddakan restaurant opened by Stephen Starr, Stokes Architecture, in collaboration with designer Shawn Hausman, went for the look of an authentic Asian courtyard, while utilizing rich materials like gold leaf, Onyx stone, and leather seating.
A ceiling with an Eastern sky tops this courtyard, with a 9’ gold leafed Buddha statue dominating the space and heading the 24’ long community table, made of backlit onyx. Flanking the sides of this courtyard are, on the ground level are a series of ‘opium rooms’, tables surrounded by a tent-like structure, and above a mezzanine with a view onto the courtyard.
