Continental Midtown

In 2004, Starr Restaurant Organization opened the Continental Midtown, the second Continental, on the west side of Center City Philadelphia. Continental Midtown features a seventies retro look, and includes three bars, two floors of dining, a rooftop lounge and garden, and unique features such as hanging basket chairs and shag carpet ceilings.
Our primary design effort was concentrated on the roof-top lounge in our first restaurant collaboration with designer Shawn Hausman. This lounge is meant to evoke the look of a mid-century modern Case Study house. Upon exiting the elevator, one passed through a garden with three trees, and enters the glass house where there is a circular bar, and a circular seating pit. The outdoor rooftop garden is unique to Philadelphia, with spectacular views of the surround high-rise buildings, but with an intimate scale.
