Shalimar Resort
Wildwood, NJ
Summer 2005

The Shalimar Motel was a classic 1950’s DooWop style motel. The owners wanted to expand the property, and upgrade the building. An existing owners quarters was torn down for a large addition containing a new lobby, meeting rooms, exercise room, and a new owners quarters with ocean views.

Two new floors were added on top of the existing three story concrete plank structure, which contain 16 new hotel rooms accessed by an indoor corridor. These rooms are unique, in that they are all two story, with a small living area on the lower level, and bedrooms on the upper level, opening up to a large roof deck with ocean views. The existing rooms were all rebuilt, including new windows and doors. It was important to integrate the design of the new addition with the existing building. The flagcrete fake rockwork was replicated in stucco on the fourth floor, and the fifth floor was set back so as not to be seen from the street.
